Can You Be Confident without Arrogance?

How is a person supposed to be confident without being arrogant? We want confident people—after all, we don’t want an airline pilot who doubts their flying ability. In fact, confidence and arrogance might be mutually exclusive; it's likely that those who appear arrogant are actually lacking in confidence.
