Iran Funded October 7th to Stop the Saudi Deal. It Didn't Work. Here's What Happens Now. | The Brief
Why did October 7th happen when it did?
Congressman Craig Goldman — co-chair of the House Abraham Accords Caucus — argues the timing was not accidental. Iran, which funds Hamas, had a direct strategic motive: derail the Saudi-Israel normalization deal that was on the verge of being signed. A Saudi-Israel deal would have been the most significant expansion of the Abraham Accords since their signing — and it would have further isolated Iran in the region.
It didn't work.
In this clip, Goldman walks through what the Abraham Accords have already achieved, which countries are next in line to normalize relations with Israel, and why he believes that with Hezbollah degraded to the north and Hamas removed from Gaza, the pieces are finally in place for a broader Middle East peace that seemed impossible just two years ago.
"We're changing the world," he says. "And we want to change the world for the better."
