
Douglas Carswell
Author and Former MP
Douglas Carswell is a British economist and former Member of Parliament. Born in Uganda in 1971, he was educated at St Andrews School in Kenya, Charterhouse in Surrey, and earned a history degree from the University of East Anglia. He served as a Conservative MP from 2005 to 2014, then change his political affiliation to the UK Independence Party, becoming its first elected MP. A prominent advocate for Brexit, he co-founded Vote Leave and authored several books, including The Plan: Twelve Months to Renew Britain and The End of Politics and the Birth of iDemocracy. Since 2021, he has been president and CEO of the Mississippi Center for Public Policy. He now lives in Jackson, Mississippi.
