Bassem Eid is a Palestinian human rights activist and political analyst based in Jerusalem (and more recently, Jericho). Initially a senior field researcher at B’Tselem, he founded the Palestinian Human Rights Monitoring Group (PHRMG) in 1996 to monitor violations by the Palestinian Authority; the group operated until 2011. Since 2003, Eid has been a regular political commentator on Israeli television and, since 2009, on Israeli radio (Reshet Bet). In 2016, he became chairman of the Center for Near East Policy Research. A recipient of several human rights awards—including the Emil Gruenzweig Memorial Award—Eid has traveled widely to lecture internationally on the Israeli–Palestinian conflict. He remains a vocal critic of the BDS movement and advocates for UNRWA reform, while challenging prevailing solutions such as the one-state model and the right of return.
