Dr. Bjørn Lomborg (born January 6, 1965) is a Danish political scientist, author, and public intellectual best known as the President of the Copenhagen Consensus Center, a U.S.-based think tank that mobilizes top economists—including multiple Nobel laureates—to determine the most effective, evidence-based ways to address global challenges through cost-benefit analysis. He serves as a visiting professor at Copenhagen Business School and is a visiting fellow at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution.
Lomborg has authored several influential books, such as The Skeptical Environmentalist, Cool It, How to Spend $75 Billion to Make the World a Better Place, and The Nobel Laureates’ Guide to the Smartest Targets for the World 2016–2030. His strategic framing of global problems by “smartest solutions” has provoked widespread discussion.
He was named among TIME magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in 2004 and continues to be a prominent voice in global policy discourse. His think tank’s work has earned accolades such as Prospect Magazine’s Think Tank of the Year (2016) and international recognition for providing pragmatic solutions toward the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
