
Dr. Jonathan Schanzer
Middle East Analyst & National Security Expert
Dr. Jonathan Schanzer is an American Middle East analyst, author, and national-security expert who serves as executive director of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD). He previously worked as a terrorism-finance analyst at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, where he focused on terrorist financing and sanctions, and held research positions at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy and the Middle East Forum. Schanzer has written extensively on the Middle East, terrorism, Iran, Israel, and Palestinian politics, and is the author of several books, including Hamas vs. Fatah and Gaza Conflict 2021. He holds degrees from Emory University, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and King’s College London.
