My Testimony on Campus Antisemitism Was Derailed by Someone’s Israel Obsession

Earlier this month, I testified before the White House Religious Liberties Commission about antisemitism on American campuses. The response was revealing when one commission member responded by pivoting almost entirely to Israel.

The conversation that commissioner Carrie Prejean Boller wanted to have was not about discrimination in the U.S., not about civil rights violations on campus, and not about Jews being excluded, harassed, and blacklisted at American universities. Rather, she wanted to talk about Israel.

Prejean Boller went back and forth during the entire hearing from texting on her phone to diverting the conversation toward Israel wherever possible. Her behavior was so egregious that the chair of the commission, Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick (R), removed her, explaining, "No member of the commission has the right to hijack a hearing for their own personal and political agenda on any issue. This is clearly, without question, what happened Monday in our hearing on antisemitism in America. This was my decision."
