
Victor Davis Hanson
Historian and Author
Victor Davis Hanson is the Martin and Illie Anderson Senior Fellow in Classics and Military History at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University. He also serves as the Wayne & Marcia Buske Distinguished Fellow in History at Hillsdale College. Hanson is Professor Emeritus of Classics at California State University, Fresno.
A noted classicist and military historian, Hanson has held visiting positions including Visiting Professor of Classics at Stanford (1991‑92), Visiting Shifrin Professor of Military History at the U.S. Naval Academy (2002‑03), and Visiting Professor of Public Policy at Pepperdine (2010).
He has published dozens of books, hundreds of articles, reviews, and essays on Greek, agrarian, and military history, as well as on contemporary culture and politics. His book The Dying Citizen: How Progressive Elites, Tribalism, and Globalization Are Destroying the Idea of America (Basic Books, 2021) is among his recent major works.
Hanson frequently contributes to national media outlets, lectures internationally, and writes regularly on topics such as classical warfare, citizenship, cultural decay, and history’s lessons for modern society.
