Jason Furman is an American economist and professor at Harvard University, where he is the Aetna Professor of the Practice of Economic Policy at Harvard Kennedy School and the Department of Economics. He served as the 28th chairman of the White House Council of Economic Advisers from 2013 to 2017, making him President Barack Obama’s chief economist and a member of the Cabinet. Furman previously held senior economic-policy positions in the Clinton and Obama administrations and has conducted research on macroeconomics, fiscal policy, labor markets, taxation, and competition policy. He holds a Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University and is also a nonresident senior fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics.
